JULIAN UNITED METHODIST CHURCH
JOIN US FOR EASTER AND HOLY WEEK!
Holy Week is the climax of Lent - this 40 day season of journeying with Jesus toward Jerusalem and preparing for Easter. During this powerful week leading up to Easter we remember the events of Jesus' last days before his arrest and crucifixion - events that ultimate culminate at Easter, when our mourning turns to dancing and we celebrate the power of life over death and light over darkness.

MAUNDY THURSDAY
Thursday, April 17 | 6:00pm
We will join with Liberty First UMC for a table-centered commemoration of Jesus' last meal with his disciples before his crucifixion, when he washed their feet as an act of service and instituted the Lord's Supper. Join us for food, worship, and Communion at 6:00pm at Liberty First UMC (123 N. Fayetteville St, Liberty).
What does "Maundy" even mean? The title "Maundy Thursday" recalls the new commandment (Latin mondatum novum) in John 13:34: "I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another." As we receive Jesus' tremendous acts of love for us, we go out to love our neighbors.
GOOD FRIDAY
Friday, April 18 | 2:00pm
We will join with the Southeast Guilford Emerging UM Community to remember the Passion of Jesus and experience the depth of God's unrelenting love for each of us.
We'll gather outside at the Pleasant Garden picnic shelter behind Town Hall (near the dog park and disc golf course - NOT at the Community Center) - located at 4920 Alliance Church Rd, at 2:00pm.
EASTER SUNDAY
Sunday, April 20 | 7:00 & 9:00am
The greatest joy of the Christian year! On April 20th we will celebrate Easter. Christ is Risen and the tomb is empty! We celebrate that the tremendous power of God's love is greater even than death itself.
Join us for two worship opportunities. We will gather outside at 7am for sunrise worship at Gillmore Memorial Park (6500 Liberty Rd, Julian), and we will worship indoors at 9am at Julian UMC (2105 NC-62E). Join us between the services (around 8am) for breakfast at the church.
We will decorate our flower cross at the 7am sunrise service, and we will add to it at the 9am service. If you have flowers growing that you would like to cut and bring with you to either service, please do! We will also have some cut flowers available.
WORSHIP
Join us for worship every Sunday at 11am. Our service is casual and leans more toward a traditional style, with hymns accompanied by one of our talented pianists.
You can wear whatever makes you comfortable for worship. Whether you're in jeans, shorts, or your best Sunday dress, we have a seat for you in our sanctuary.
Online Worship
If you can't make it in person, worship with us online! Join us live at 11 each week on our Facebook page.
Holy Communion
We often celebrate Holy Communion (also called The Lord's Supper, or the Eucharist) on the first Sunday of the month. Whenever we do, our Communion Table is an open one. Anyone who wishes to be in relationship with God is invited to the Table, regardless of church membership, age, or any other factor. We use unfermented grape juice, and gluten-free wafers are available.
Accessibility and Participation
We strive for all persons to participate fully in our worship services. If any accommodations would help you engage in worship, please talk to Pastor Andrew so we can work with you to ensure you're able to participate!
Children in Worship
Children of all ages and levels of excitement or fussiness are always welcome in worship! We also have caring volunteers who will take kids during the sermon time for activities just for them.
Getting Here
We are located at 2105 NC Hwy 62, Julian, NC. You can park anywhere along the drive, and enter either through the double glass doors at the front of the building or the ramp access on the side of the building.

OUR PASTOR
Rev. Andrew Baten
Hi! I'm Andrew, a Florida native (Go Gators!) who loves living as a transplant to North Carolina. I am married to Nikki - also a United Methodist pastor - and we have two children - 5-year-old Asher and almost-1 Ellie. I love everything about food: growing it, cooking it, and of course eating it. I enjoy getting outside with my family to explore the best of what this beautiful state has to offer, and traveling to explore new places.
I am proud to be the pastor of this congregation, and I look forward to walking alongside you on your journey of faith! In addition to my role here, I am also the pastor of an emerging community of United Methodists in Southeast Guilford County. Find out more at southeastguilfordumc.org.
I would love to hear from you! You can reach me at 336.339.9892 (call or text) or abaten@wnccumc.net
